Residents across the Hunter were jolted awake after an earthquake struck near Mount Thorley in the early hours of this morning.
The 2.5 magnitude quake hit around 3:50am, with Geoscience data indicating it occurred at a shallow depth of approximately 3km beneath the Singleton Council area.
While the tremor was relatively minor, earthquakes at shallow depths can often be felt more strongly by locals, sparking early morning concern across parts of the region.
Federal MP Dan Repacholi is urging residents to act quickly if they discover any property damage.
“If you’ve experienced damage, contact your insurance provider straight away,” he said. “Please also reach out if you encounter any issues with claims.”
There have been no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, however authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
Residents who felt the quake are encouraged to report their experience to help build a clearer picture of how widely the tremor was felt across the Hunter.
