In a devastating incident, a home in Weston was completely destroyed by a ferocious fire early this morning. Local fire crews were alerted at 6:22 AM, arriving to find smoke billowing from the roof. The blaze, which originated in a bedroom, had quickly spread through the roof cavity, engulfing the entire house.
Three residents managed to evacuate on their own, though one suffered minor burns. Thankfully, the home’s smoke alarms were functioning and alerting the occupants.
Firefighters fought valiantly for nearly three hours to bring the fire under control. The use of a remote piloted aircraft system (RPAS), or drone, was crucial in assessing the roof for solar panels and identifying persistent hot spots.
Crews from multiple stations responded to the emergency, including Fire and Rescue NSW stations 202 Abermain, 349 Kurri Kurri, 254 Cessnock, 344 Kearsley, 455 Rutherford, and Fire and Rescue NSW Metropolitan North.
