An investigation is underway after a man was shot by police during an arrest in Newcastle this morning.
About 8.30am on Tuesday (3 March 2026), officers from the Northern Operations Support Group and the Northern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team attended a unit block on Honeysuckle Drive to arrest a 36-year-old man wanted on five outstanding warrants.
Police forced entry to the unit, where the man allegedly confronted officers armed with an edged weapon.
Two Tasers were deployed but were reportedly ineffective. The man allegedly continued to threaten officers before a police officer discharged a firearm, striking him in the shoulder.
The man was treated at the scene and taken under police guard to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
A crime scene has been established and detectives from the Newcastle City Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
