In a recent development, two individuals find themselves facing charges related to the supply of illicit drugs, following a vehicle stop near Newcastle on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The incident unfolded around 2:30 pm when officers from the proactive crime team of the Newcastle City Police District were conducting patrols in the Mayfield West area. Their attention was drawn to a Range Rover Evoque on Morris Street.
Upon stopping the vehicle, they engaged with the driver, a 29-year-old man, and his 27-year-old male passenger. A subsequent search of the car led to the alleged discovery and seizure of methamphetamine, estimated to have a potential street value of $156,000.
Both individuals were promptly arrested at the scene and taken into custody at Waratah Police Station to assist authorities in their ongoing investigation. Following this, a search warrant was executed at a property on Morris Street in Mayfield, where additional prohibited drugs and mobile phones were reportedly discovered and seized.
The outcome of the search warrant led to both men being charged with the serious offense of supplying prohibited drugs in quantities exceeding commercial thresholds. Their case was brought before the Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, where they were officially denied bail. They are set to appear before the same court once more on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, as legal proceedings continue.
