The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has issued a Watch and Act flood warning for Paterson and surrounding areas, urging residents to stay alert and avoid all floodwaters as major flooding continues.
The Paterson River at Gostwyck Bridge is currently at 12.32 metres and falling slowly, but the Bureau of Meteorology warns renewed rises above the major flood level (12.20 m) are expected overnight Thursday. The river may peak near 12.50 metres early Thursday morning, continuing major flooding in the area.
Dangerous floodwaters may impact:
- Low-lying roads and causeways
- Areas near the river
- The causeway at Horns Crossing Road
What You Need to Do:
- Do not enter floodwater. It is dangerous, potentially toxic, and could void your car insurance. If it’s flooded, forget it.
- Follow your emergency plan. If you don’t have one, make a plan now—decide what to take and where to go if evacuation becomes necessary.
- Plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Expect road and bridge closures.
- Obey all warning signs and instructions from emergency services.
- Avoid storm drains, ditches, ravines, and rivers.
- Farmers and campers along the river should monitor conditions closely and move to higher ground if needed.
- Share this information with others to help your community stay safe.
