Paterson, NSW — The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has issued an urgent evacuation order for parts of Paterson as floodwaters continue to rise. Residents must evacuate before 11:30 PM tonight, Monday 19 May, due to major riverine flooding.
Areas Affected:
- Parts of Queen St
- Maitland Rd
- Martins Creek Rd
- Tocal Rd
- Railway St
Floodwaters are now impacting these areas. If you stay, you risk becoming trapped without power, water, or emergency services. Rescue may not be possible once conditions worsen.
Current Situation:
The Paterson River at Gostwyck Bridge is currently at 12.32 metres and falling slowly but is expected to rise again overnight, potentially reaching 12.50 metres early Tuesday morning—well above the major flood level of 12.20 metres.
What You Should Do:
- Evacuate now to stay with family, friends, or find alternate accommodation in safe areas.
- Take essential items: phone, charger, medication, warm clothing, pet supplies, valuables, food, and water.
- Gather your pets and prepare for safe transport.
- Move hazardous materials above floor level.
- Avoid floodwaters—do not drive or walk through flooded areas. If it’s flooded, forget it.
- Stay updated and follow instructions from emergency services.
