A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at the Boatrowers Hotel in Stockton, near Newcastle, on Saturday evening.
At around 7.50pm on 24 May 2025, police were called to the Fullerton Street venue after reports that a man had threatened patrons and demanded cash from staff.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District arrived to find a 30-year-old man being restrained by a group of patrons. It’s alleged the man stabbed a 68-year-old patron during the incident before being overpowered.
The injured man left the scene before police arrived but was later located and taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. The alleged offender was also treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and transported to the same hospital under police guard.
Police searched the man and allegedly seized several weapons, including a gel blaster firearm. A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced.
On Monday, 26 May 2025, the man was charged with the following offences:
- Robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon
- Aggravated robbery causing wounding/grievous bodily harm
- Wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- Possession of an unregistered firearm (pistol)
- Common assault
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday, 27 May 2025.
