A Cessnock man has been charged after allegedly displaying a Nazi symbol in a public place, sparking swift police action in the Hunter region.
Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District launched an investigation on Saturday, 31 January 2026, after reports that a Nazi symbol had been displayed on a council-issued bin in Cessnock.
Following inquiries, a 44-year-old man was today (Thursday, 5 February 2026) issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice, charged with knowingly displaying a Nazi symbol by public act without reasonable excuse.
He is scheduled to appear before Cessnock Local Court on Thursday, 19 March 2026.
Police say investigations into hate-related incidents are treated seriously, particularly when they involve public spaces within the community.
