A man is in custody following a fatal house fire in Lalor Park, Sydney.
Around 1 am today (Sunday, 7 July 2024), emergency services were called to Freeman Street after reports of a house fire.
Upon arrival, NSW Ambulance Paramedics treated one nine-year-old girl and three boys aged eleven, seven, and six at the scene. They were then taken to Westmead Hospital in stable condition.
Two boys, aged two and four, were also treated at the scene but were in critical condition. They were transported to Westmead Hospital, where they died a short time later.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze and discovered a third child, believed to be a 10-month-old girl, deceased.
The three deceased children have not yet been formally identified.
A 29-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Blacktown Police Area Command officers arrested a 28-year-old man at the scene. He was treated for smoke inhalation and is now under police guard in the hospital.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
