NEWCASTLE (Saturday, January 13, 2024): A man is recovering in hospital after a violent break-in in Newcastle early this morning. Police are appealing for public assistance to identify the culprits, who fled in a distinctive turquoise-coloured Volkswagen T-Cross.
Around 4am, four individuals forced entry into a home on Tumut Street, Dudley, attempting to steal a motorcycle. Alert neighbours intervened, leading to a confrontation and struggle. Tragically, in the chaos, the resident homeowner, a 42-year-old man, sustained leg injuries after being struck by the fleeing vehicle. He was treated by neighbours until paramedics arrived and is currently in John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
