News Update: New Multi-Purpose Court Opens at Centenary Park, Abermain
Residents of Abermain can now enjoy a brand-new, state-of-the-art multi-purpose court at Centenary Park. The new facility features line-markings for basketball, pickleball, and handball, catering to a wide range of sports enthusiasts in the community.
Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal expressed his excitement about the court’s opening, highlighting its positive impact on local residents. “I’m thrilled to see the new cutting-edge, multi-purpose court at Centenary Park open for use,” said Clr Suvaal. “This proactive investment in our recreational infrastructure underscores Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering healthier and happier lifestyles for our residents. More accessible and inclusive sporting hubs lead to better community engagement, and I encourage everyone to make use of this fantastic modern facility.”
The project is part of Cessnock City Council’s Recreation Facilities Renewal Program, included in the 2023-24 Operational Plan. This program aims to revitalize council-owned or managed recreational areas and supporting infrastructure, including floodlighting, irrigation, field improvements, playground and safety surfacing renewal, fencing, park furniture renewal, and shade structure installation.
Construction of the Centenary Park project began in late January 2024 and was completed in four months. For the latest updates on ongoing and upcoming projects within the Cessnock LGA, residents are encouraged to stay informed through council announcements.
