An 18-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident where a skateboarder was struck by a vehicle in a park near Newcastle.
The incident occurred around 9 PM on Friday, 21 June 2024, at Greenslope Street, Bar Beach. Police responded to reports that a man had been hit by a utility vehicle which then allegedly fled the scene.
The victim, a 54-year-old skateboarder, received immediate treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition.
Hunter Crash Investigation Unit, supported by Newcastle City Police District, established a crime scene and launched an investigation. The following day, police located and seized a Nissan Navara linked to the incident.
At approximately 11 AM on Saturday, 22 June 2024, the 18-year-old suspect was arrested at Newcastle Police Station. He faces charges of driving recklessly, operating a vehicle dangerously, and property damage.
The accused has been granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, 11 July 2024.
