Newcastle and surrounding areas have received a geo-targeting alert as police search for a missing man last seen in Rathmines.
The alert, sent via text message from +61 444 444 444, is legitimate and not a scam, according to police. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and assist in locating 34-year-old Benjamin.

Benjamin was last seen in Rathmines at 1:00pm on Monday, 11 August 2025. He was wearing black tracksuit pants and a black hoodie at the time.
Police say he is known to frequent several areas around Lake Macquarie, including Bolton Point, Swansea, Coal Point, Marmong Point, and nearby boat ramps.
Lake Macquarie Police District officers are conducting searches and following up on reported sightings. They are asking anyone who sees Benjamin or knows of his whereabouts to come forward immediately.
“If you receive a text message from +61 444 444 444, it is NOT a scam,” police stated in their public notice.
Members of the public can report information directly to Lake Macquarie Police District or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Crime Stoppers advises that information can be given anonymously.
