Extensive repairs are now underway on Putty Road, a vital regional thoroughfare southwest of Mount Thorley. Disaster recovery efforts, funded jointly by the Australian and NSW Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, are set to address significant damage sustained during a severe weather event in June 2022.
Murray Watt, Senator for Queensland, and Jenny Aitchison MP have played pivotal roles in securing funding for the restoration project. Member for Hunter Dan Repacholli visted the site today. The recovery initiative involves the installation of steel nails, some up to 12 meters in length, drilled into the steep slopes along the road, particularly at Terrys Creek where multiple landslips occurred.

Commencing on January 22, permanent repairs at nine locations along a three-kilometer stretch of Putty Road are expected to be completed by mid-2024, contingent on favorable weather conditions. Specialist Site Services has been appointed as the contractor responsible for executing these critical repairs.

Following the 2022 disaster, Transport for NSW has diligently managed this section of Putty Road, employing lane closures and traffic control measures to ensure continued accessibility for traffic. The ongoing efforts signify a concerted commitment to restore and maintain this essential transportation route for the community.
