Authorities are seeking public assistance in the search for Melissa Reeves, a 48-year-old woman who has been camping alone in Olney State Forest near Morriset for the past month. Despite her camping experience and familiarity with the area, concerns have arisen after Melissa failed to return to her campsite on Saturday.
Having driven her vehicle to fetch water, Melissa’s vehicle became stuck. Early this morning, she informed a family member of her intention to walk in the forest to collect water, but when the family member visited her campsite around midday, Melissa was nowhere to be found.
Tuggerah Lakes Police District is actively investigating her disappearance, expressing heightened concerns for Melissa’s safety and well-being. Described as Caucasian, approximately 165cm tall, with a medium build, black hair, and brown eyes, Melissa was driving a white Toyota Hilux 2WD with NSW registration DF 24 KZ.
Despite an initial search by officers and the Police Dog Squad proving unsuccessful, a coordinated land search involving local police and the SES is scheduled for 8.30am tomorrow (Tuesday, 23 January 2024).
Authorities urge anyone with information about Melissa’s whereabouts to contact Tuggerah Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
