Officer Injured in High-Speed Pursuit

A man is set to face court today after a high-speed chase and subsequent arrest on the state’s mid north coast overnight.
Around 3am on Friday, 7 June 2024, police attempted to stop a black Ford ute on Bagnalls Beach Road in Corlette. When the vehicle failed to comply, a pursuit ensued, with speeds allegedly reaching up to 165 kph through the suburbs of Corlette, Nelson, and Salamander Bays.
The chase ended on Spinnaker Way, Corlette, where the driver attempted to escape in a waiting Toyota RAV 4. During the arrest, the suspect allegedly kicked an officer in the chest.
The 30-year-old man was apprehended and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station. He faces charges including police pursuit, custody of a knife, assaulting police, possessing a prohibited drug, and driving while suspended. Bail was refused, and he is scheduled to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court today.
