Hundreds gathered in Newcastle’s Civic Park yesterday for a rally advocating for Palestine. Prominent Greens representatives, including Marion Gevers, Louise Ihlein, Averil Drummond, Jan Davis, and Campbell Knox, addressed the crowd, alongside families and other interested individuals.
The rally focused on calling for an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with emphasis on two main points: cessation of the Israeli occupation and a halt to Australian military exports to Israel. Some passionate speakers urged attendees to contact their political leaders and sign a petition supporting these goals.
While the rally advocated for specific policy changes, it’s important to acknowledge the complex history and political realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There are diverse perspectives on both sides, and finding a lasting solution will require dialogue and understanding from all parties involved.
