Lake Macquarie Crime Crackdown: Man and Woman Charged in String of Offenses
In a significant development, a 38-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman have been apprehended and charged in connection with a series of property and driving offenses. The Lake Macquarie Proactive Crime Team spearheaded this investigation.
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at approximately 10:20 am, police officers were conducting routine patrols on Sturt Street in Swansea. Their attempt to halt a black Honda Accord sedan led to a dramatic pursuit when the vehicle refused to comply. The chase spanned several areas, including Pelican, Blacksmiths, and Murrays Beach, ultimately ending when the vehicle came to a halt.
At the scene, officers apprehended the 38-year-old male driver, who was subsequently transported to Belmont Police Station. Further investigations by the Lake Macquarie Proactive Crime Team have linked him to three separate break-ins in Catherine Hill Bay, Valentine, and Blacksmiths in recent weeks.
The Blacksmiths resident now faces a slew of charges, including four counts of dishonestly obtaining property by deception, three counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in the company of others to steal, three counts of driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period, driving a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent, engaging in a police pursuit without stopping, driving recklessly, and resisting a police officer in the execution of their duty.
Additionally, following intensive inquiries, a 45-year-old woman was arrested at John Hunter Hospital on the same day, around 1 pm, also tied to a break-in in Blacksmiths and Valentine.
The Swansea woman has been charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in the company of others to steal and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.
Both suspects have been denied bail and are scheduled to appear before Belmont Local Court today, Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
