Breaking News: Three Teens Apprehended After Armed Robbery and High-Speed Pursuit in Hunter Valley
In a startling incident that unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, September 27, 2023, three teenagers have been arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery and a subsequent high-speed pursuit in the Hunter Valley region.
Around 1 am, local authorities were alerted to a distress call on the New England Highway in Blandford, where a 73-year-old man reported being the victim of an armed robbery. The victim stated that he had stopped his vehicle to assist three unidentified individuals who had flagged him down shortly before the incident occurred.
Allegedly, the three individuals forcibly seized the man’s car keys and brandished a knife, threatening the victim before fleeing the scene in his white Ford Ranger utility vehicle. Remarkably, the elderly man did not sustain any injuries during the ordeal.
Shortly thereafter, law enforcement officers were patrolling the Singleton area when they attempted to halt the stolen utility on the New England Highway. The vehicle reportedly failed to comply with police directives, leading to a high-speed pursuit that continued towards Newcastle.
The pursuit eventually concluded in North Lambton thanks to the successful deployment of tire spikes by police. At the scene, all three suspects—two male teenagers and one female—were taken into custody and transported to Newcastle Police Station.
The alleged driver, a 17-year-old male, faces charges of robbery in company and police pursuit—failure to stop—driving recklessly. Meanwhile, the 16-year-old passengers are charged with robbery in company and being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent.
All three suspects have been denied bail and are scheduled to appear before a Children’s Court later today, Wednesday, September 27, 2023. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
