At 1:11 PM yesterday, the Cessnock District Rescue Squad was activated for a motor vehicle collision involving a trapped individual on Mount View Road, Mount View. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that one person was still trapped after their vehicle left the roadway, fell approximately 3 meters off a bridge, and landed upside down, partially submerged in water.
The rescue operation was highly technical due to the water, confined space from the squashed roof, twisted components inside the vehicle, and the precarious angle of the vehicle. The team stabilized the vehicle before commencing any work, allowing NSW Ambulance medical personnel to begin treatment despite challenging conditions. The confined space made it difficult for a full injury assessment, prompting the activation of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
The Cessnock team utilized various rescue tools and techniques to free the occupant, working closely with medical personnel throughout the process. Once extricated, the occupant was further assessed and appeared to have suffered only minor injuries. They were then transported to the hospital for further treatment.
