Residents prevent bushfire after dumped tires set on fire in Abernethy
A fire that broke out in a pile of vehicle tyres in bushland near Ferguson Street, Abernethy, was quickly contained by local residents on Tuesday afternoon. The Kearsley Brigade responded to the fire at about 4:45pm and found that residents had already extinguished spot fires that had spread to the surrounding vegetation. Firefighters from Kearsley Brigade and NSW RFS – Central – Cessnock Brigade worked together to put out the tyre fire, which was located on a trail in a remote area.
