Residents prevent bushfire after dumped tires set on fire in Abernethy

A fire that broke out in a pile of vehicle tyres in bushland near Ferguson Street, Abernethy, was quickly contained by local residents on Tuesday afternoon.

The Kearsley Brigade responded to the fire at about 4:45pm and found that residents had already extinguished spot fires that had spread to the surrounding vegetation.

Firefighters from Kearsley Brigade and NSW RFS – Central – Cessnock Brigade worked together to put out the tyre fire, which was located on a trail in a remote area.

The Brigade suspects that the fire was deliberately lit and reminds the community of the dangers of illegal dumping in bushland.

No one was injured or property damaged as a result of the fire.
