⛈️ Severe Storms Hammer NSW: Damaging Winds, Giant Hail Threatening Multiple Regions ⛈️
Severe thunderstorms continue to rumble across northern and eastern New South Wales this afternoon, fuelled by a warm and unstable airmass that’s triggering dangerous conditions across large parts of the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, with damaging winds and large hailstones likely over the next several hours. Communities in Batemans Bay, Scone, Katoomba, Cooma, Walgett and Bega are among those in the firing line.
A 109 km/h wind gust was recorded at Walgett at 2:24 pm, highlighting the intensity of the system.
The threat has now eased across the Riverina and ACT, with warnings for those districts officially cancelled.

Residents are urged to take immediate precautions:
- Move vehicles under cover and secure loose outdoor items.
- Stay at least 8 metres away from fallen powerlines and report them to your electricity provider.
- Fire-damaged trees may be unstable — keep clear.
- Unplug electronics and avoid using phones during the storm.
- Stay indoors, away from windows, and keep children and pets inside.
- Monitor changing conditions, especially in bushfire-affected landscapes.
