Residents in parts of the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Maitland, Cessnock, Gosford, and Wyong are on alert as severe thunderstorms sweep through the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology reports a severe thunderstorm near Yengo National Park, northwest of St Albans, moving northeast. The storm is expected to hit:
- St Albans and Yengo National Park by 4:05 pm
- Mangrove Creek Dam, Bucketty, and areas between Wollombi and Bucketty by 4:20 pm
The storm may produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that could cause flash flooding, and large hailstones. Earlier, Moss Vale recorded 31.2 mm of rain in just 30 minutes.

Safety advice from the SES includes:
- Park vehicles under secure cover, away from trees, powerlines, and drains.
- Secure loose items around homes and yards.
- Stay at least 8 metres from fallen power lines and report them immediately.
- Avoid creeks, storm drains, and floodwaters; do not drive or walk through them.
- Seek higher ground if trapped by flash flooding and call 000 if in danger.
- Stay indoors away from windows, keeping children and pets safe.
