Shocking: Off-Duty Cop Charged for Assaulting Woman and Two Officers!

A disturbing incident went down in the Hunter region of the state today, resulting in an off-duty police officer getting slapped with charges for alleged assault. It all went down at around 11:25 am on Tuesday 28 March 2023, when officers from Port Stephen-Hunter Police District responded to reports of an assault at a home in Horseshoe Bend.

Upon arrival, they found a woman who was acquainted with the off-duty cop on the footpath outside the house, nursing facial injuries. When two officers spoke with a man on the property, things took a violent turn. He reportedly tackled them to the ground, causing one constable minor facial injuries, and the other leading senior constable a knee injury, which required further treatment at the hospital.

The 29-year-old off-duty officer allegedly put up a resistance when the cops tried to arrest him, but they managed to cuff him and took him to Maitland Police Station. The senior constable attached to a specialist command has since been slapped with a string of charges, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), stalk/intimidate intending to cause fear of physical harm (DV), two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The man was refused bail and is set to appear before Maitland Local Court on Wednesday, 29 March 2023. His employment status is also currently under review.
