‘SITE UNSAFE’ : NEWCASTLE COUNCIL CLOSES LEXIE’S CAFE
27 Jobs have been lost this morning as Lexies Cafe is forced to close due to immediate risk of coastal inundation.
It’s the news Stockton was dreading – the City of Newcastle has confirmed the barricades will stay up at Lexie’s beachside cafe.
It says the surrounding land and the kiosk itself are at immediate risk of coastal inundation.
The cafe owner Nick Sovechles spoke to council staff who delivered the news this morning.
Dozens of locals turned out to hear the decision and say it’s a devastating blow to the Stockton community.
Mr Sovechles says he’s concerned for the 27 staff at the cafe who are now out of work.
