The outcome has been determined for the high school teacher caught on video engaging in a physical altercation with a student in Maitland.
During the court proceedings, 62-year-old Michael John Kable expressed genuine remorse after confessing to assaulting a student at Maitland Grossman High School on March 21st of this year.
Presiding Magistrate Ron Maiden acknowledged that Mr. Kable had endured taunting from his students, demonstrated remorse, and was unlikely to commit a similar offense in the future. However, the magistrate deemed it necessary to issue a conviction.
Consequently, Mr. Kable has now officially been convicted of common assault and placed on an 18-month community corrections order.
Magistrate Ron Maiden further commented that obtaining another teaching position could prove challenging for Mr. Kable due to the conviction, particularly where mandatory Working with Children Checks are required.
