Two teenagers have been charged following an alleged home break-in and subsequent police pursuit in Lake Macquarie.
At around 1:50 am on Wednesday, June 5, officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District attempted to stop a vehicle in New Lambton. The driver reportedly failed to stop, prompting a police chase.
The pursuit concluded shortly after on Campbell Street, Wallsend, where three teens were apprehended. Two of the teens, aged 15 and 16, were taken to Waratah Police Station and charged with several offenses, including:
- Aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offense
- Destroying or damaging property
- Entering enclosed land without lawful excuse
- Aggravated break and enter with intent, knowing a person was present
- Being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent
- Hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty
- Breach of bail
Both teens were refused bail and are set to appear at Broadmeadow Children’s Court today.
Police allege the car was stolen during a break-in at a home on Steven Place, Newcastle East, shortly before the pursuit began.
The third teen, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to John Hunter Hospital. Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
