Tense Standoff: Raptor Squad Officers Fire on Alleged Offender in Maitland

Breaking News: Raptor Squad Incident in Maitland

In the ongoing efforts of Strike Force Stranraer, Raptor Squad officers found themselves in a tense situation during an arrest in Maitland. The suspect, a 26-year-old man, was apprehended for alleged drug and firearm offenses. However, the encounter escalated when the man brandished two hunting-style knives upon police arrival, leading to the discharge of a firearm by one of the officers.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the suspect was successfully taken into custody. Charges against him include supplying a pistol to an unauthorized person, possession of offensive weapons with intent, obstructing police investigation, and involvement in a criminal group.

The suspect appeared in Maitland Local Court and was denied bail. Further proceedings are scheduled for June 19, 2024, in Newcastle Local Court. Meanwhile, authorities have initiated a review into the firearm discharge as investigations by Strike Force Stranraer persist.
