Residents in a Newcastle suburb are on edge after a disturbing spate of violent home invasions left three people injured in just days.
Detectives have launched a major investigation after three separate assaults involving large bladed weapons at a unit complex on Fowler Street, Hamilton South.
The attacks unfolded over four days.
In the early hours of Friday, 30 January, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted while asleep in her unit. She suffered deep cuts to her face and hand, believed to have been caused by a large blade. She later sought treatment at John Hunter Hospital. Police say she is yet to provide a statement.
Just hours later, at about 8pm, emergency services were called to the same building after reports of a home invasion. A 44-year-old man was allegedly attacked and robbed by three men armed with edged weapons. Cash and property were stolen, and the victim was taken to hospital with lacerations and bruising.
Then on Monday night, 2 February, violence struck again. At around 10.20pm, police found a 32-year-old man suffering serious lacerations to his back and head, again consistent with a large bladed weapon. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Police from Newcastle City Police District have established Strike Force Arnstone to investigate the attacks and determine whether they are linked.
Detectives are urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Locals are being warned to remain vigilant as inquiries continue.
