TAREE, NSW — A 41-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle on Muldoon Street, Taree, on Tuesday evening in a tragic incident that has rocked the Mid North Coast community.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 8pm on April 22 following reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian. Officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District responded and found the man suffering critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene for multiple injuries before he was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the man sadly passed away in hospital this morning (Thursday, 24 April).
The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old man, was arrested at the scene and underwent mandatory testing. He has since been released pending further investigation.
Police established a crime scene and the Crash Investigation Unit is continuing to piece together the events that led to the collision. Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
