In a devastating incident today at Stockton Beach, located approximately 3km South of Birubi Beach, Anna Bay, a 33-year-old man lost his life after being pulled from the water. Emergency services responded swiftly to reports of four individuals in distress just after 2.40 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Despite the efforts of bystanders who assisted the victim, the 33-year-old man could not be revived and tragically succumbed to the incident at the scene. Meanwhile, a woman received critical care from NSW Ambulance paramedics and has been transported to John Hunter Hospital.
Another man, treated by paramedics, is reported to be in stable condition after being taken to the same hospital. A third man, fortunately, did not require further treatment.
Port Stephens-Hunter Police District has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and a comprehensive report will be prepared for the Coroner’s consideration. This incident underscores the importance of water safety, and authorities continue to stress the need for caution in aquatic activities across NSW.
