Tragedy struck near Scone yesterday as a collision on the New England Highway resulted in the death of a driver. The incident, which occurred around 12:05 PM, involved multiple vehicles and claimed the life of a 41-year-old man.

According to initial reports, a Volvo semi-trailer and a Toyota Landcruiser towing a caravan collided in the northbound lanes before crashing into an oncoming Isuzu truck in the southbound lane. Emergency services, including officers from the Hunter Valley Police District, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and RFS firefighters, promptly responded to the scene.

The Isuzu truck driver, aged 41, was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries early this morning. Meanwhile, the 63-year-old Toyota driver was also airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition, accompanied by his 60-year-old female passenger, who was transported by ambulance in stable condition.

The Volvo driver, aged 60, was treated for shock at the scene and subsequently taken to Muswellbrook Hospital for mandatory testing. Following the incident, a crime scene was established, leading to the closure of the New England Highway in both directions for several hours.
