Breaking News Update: Severe Weather Alert Issued by SES for Eastern NSW

The New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) has issued a watch and act warning for severe weather conditions affecting Eastern NSW. Residents in areas including Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Batemans Bay, and Goulburn are urged to stay indoors due to anticipated damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns of heavy rainfall, potentially leading to flash flooding in the southern parts of the Hunter to the Sydney Metropolitan, Illawarra, and Central Tablelands districts. Rainfall totals between 50 to 90 mm are expected, with localised intensities up to 130 mm over the Illawarra escarpment.

Moreover, intense rainfall may result in dangerous flash flooding between the Blue Mountains and Narooma. Localised totals could reach up to 220 mm over the Illawarra escarpment, with the possibility of thunderstorms exacerbating conditions.

In addition to the rainfall, damaging easterly winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are expected along the coastal strip south of Sydney, particularly in elevated areas.
