A woman has been charged after police allegedly uncovered a large quantity of suspected stolen copper at a property in Tomago.
About 4.50pm on Monday 9 February 2026, officers from Port Stephens–Hunter Police District attended a property on School Drive following reports of suspicious activity. Police spoke with a woman standing near a parked vehicle at the location.
After making inquiries, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located around one tonne of copper wire, along with bolt cutters and a credit card believed to be in another person’s name. The items were seized.
A 40-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station, where she was charged with goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen.
She was refused bail by police and appeared before Bail Division Court 2 on Tuesday, where she was granted conditional bail. The woman is due to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 16 February 2026.
The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, and investigations are ongoing into the origin of the copper wire.
