Overnight a vehicle was stolen from Merewether. About 3:30am Police sighted the vehicle driving erratically in Cooks Hill.
The vehicle failed to stop and was pursued by police which was terminated shortly after by police. About 4:10am it was sighted again in Newcastle by the Dog Unit and pursued.
The vehicle crashed and rolled at an intersection in Darby Street, Cooks Hill. The 15-year-old male driver from Maryland was arrested after he kicked open the door attempting to flee. He was charged with police pursuit- drive dangerously (Skyes Law) and drive conveyance without consent of owner.
The 14-year-old male passenger from Cooks Hill was arrested without incident. He was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner, custody of a knife and breaching his bail conditions.
