A man has been charged with attempted murder following a shocking domestic violence incident in Newcastle that allegedly involved a Molotov cocktail being thrown into a family home.
Emergency services were called to a property on Cottonwood Chase at Fletcher about 12.20am on Tuesday (17 February 2026) after reports of a domestic disturbance.
Police allege a man threw an improvised incendiary device into the house, sparking a fire before a violent confrontation broke out inside the home. During the alleged altercation, one occupant suffered serious injuries.
The 53-year-old victim was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and launched an urgent investigation.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 52-year-old man about 5am the same morning on Drovers Way in Lindfield, Sydney.
He was taken to Chatswood Police Station and charged with attempted murder (domestic violence-related) and damage property by fire or explosive with intent to injure (DV).
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Hornsby Local Court today (Wednesday, 18 February 2026).
Police investigations are continuing.
