Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash Near Merriwa

A man has died following a late-night crash in the Upper Hunter region.

Emergency services were called to Cullingral Road at Merriwa, about 70km northwest of Muswellbrook, around 9:15pm on Sunday (April 5, 2026), after reports of a vehicle leaving the roadway.

Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District arrived to find a single vehicle that had crashed into an embankment.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance attempted to treat the male driver, but he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
