A key transport link in the Upper Hunter is finally back in action, with Coulson’s Creek Road officially rebuilt and reopened after nearly five years of closure and setbacks.
The road was first shut down in 2021 after suffering severe structural damage and instability, making it unsafe for public use. Initial repair efforts were abandoned when extreme weather caused major landslips, washing early works down the hillside and significantly delaying the project.
For years, the closure left residents and the Upper Hunter community without a vital connection, impacting travel, access, and local productivity.
Local MP Dan Repacholi said securing funding to rebuild the road became a top priority following his election, describing the project as a critical win for the region.
Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King confirmed support was delivered to ensure the road could be properly restored after earlier failures.
The completed rebuild marks the end of a long and frustrating chapter for locals, with the road now fully operational and expected to restore smoother transport links across the region.
Officials say the project highlights the importance of resilient infrastructure investment, particularly in areas prone to extreme weather events.
