Cessnock, NSW – Tuesday, May 13, 2025
A major milestone has been reached in the transformation of the Cessnock Leagues Club, with the official groundbreaking ceremony taking place today to mark the start of construction on a major redevelopment that will double the club’s footprint.
Cessnock Leagues Club directors, management, and staff were joined at the event by Cessnock Mayor Dan Watton, Member for Hunter Dan Repacholi, and representatives from ALTIS Architecture and Club Projects. The ceremony celebrated the launch of a project set to reshape the club’s future as a premier entertainment destination in the Hunter Region.
Club President Bruce Wilson OAM described the event as a proud moment in the club’s history.
“This marks the beginning of one of Cessnock’s most significant developments,” Mr Wilson said. “It will support local entertainment, hospitality, and employment opportunities for many years to come. As one of the fastest-growing communities in the state, this project ensures the club is ready to meet future demand.”
Designed by leading firm ALTIS Architecture, the redevelopment will deliver a range of new and upgraded facilities, including:
- Expansion of seating capacity from 700 to nearly 1,400
- Over 1,700 square metres of outdoor space, featuring landscaped gardens, alfresco dining, a courtyard, and outdoor entertainment stage
- A new 150-seat restaurant, an expanded bistro and café with seating for 240 diners, plus wood-fired pizzas and a gelato bar
- A larger main lounge and sports bar
- A new children’s playground
- 58 additional car parking spaces
Construction is expected to be completed by May 2026.
