Veteran NBN News presenter Gavin Morris is set to leave the network as part of Nine Entertainment’s major newsroom restructure, according to TV Blackbox.
Morris, who joined NBN in 2009, has been a familiar face on the 6pm bulletin and a senior weather presenter across Northern NSW and the Gold Coast. He is reportedly negotiating a redundancy after 15 years with the network. His absence was noted on Monday night’s bulletin by viewers.
The move comes despite NBN recently announcing its 33rd consecutive ratings win and a 62.8% rise in weekday BVOD audiences on 9Now.
Nine’s broader restructuring program, expected to save around $100 million, spans News, Sport, Stan, Marketing, and Creative divisions. The company confirmed the new operating model will bring together teams across Channel 9 and 9Now to reduce duplication and drive collaboration.
Other high-profile departures are also reported, including Sydney weather presenter Amber Sherlock and Brisbane sports reporter Jonathan Uptin, with further job losses expected across several cities.
Nine is not commenting on individual staff changes, citing ongoing consultation. A spokesperson confirmed support is being offered to affected employees, including redeployment and wellbeing services.
