Cessnock, NSW — October 29, 2025:
A 39-year-old Cessnock man has been granted bail after being charged over a fire at PCYC Cessnock earlier this month.
Police allege the man broke into the Short Street venue around 8 am on Sunday, 19 October, and attempted to set the foyer on fire using an accelerant. The blaze failed to spread and extinguished itself before causing major damage.
Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene and launched an investigation, with assistance from the Proactive Crime Team and Hunter Valley Detectives.
Following inquiries, police arrested the man at a Kurri Kurri home about 7:30 am on Wednesday. He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offence and damage property by fire or explosive.
The man was granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Cessnock Local Court on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.
