In a recent incident in Hamilton East, occurring at approximately 1:40 am on Monday, June 5, 2023, law enforcement authorities took swift action when a Mitsubishi Triton was pulled over by general duties officers on Tudor Street. The routine traffic stop quickly escalated when a 21-year-old male driver tested positive for alcohol consumption during a roadside breath test.
The driver’s positive reading prompted immediate arrest, and he was promptly transported to Newcastle Police Station for further processing. Subsequent breath analysis conducted at the station revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.103, placing it within the mid-range category of Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol (PCA) offenses.
As a result of the incident, the driver’s license has been suspended, and he has been issued a court attendance notice. The individual is scheduled to appear before the Newcastle Local Court later this month to address the charges against him.
Newcastle City Police District stress the importance of responsible driving and urge the community to refrain from getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain road safety and protect the well-being of all residents in the Hamilton East area.
