A 35-year-old man will appear in court after being charged with multiple traffic offences following a weekend stop near Newcastle.
Shortly after 3:30 pm on Sunday, 9 November, Operation Shore Safe police were patrolling Wharf Road, Newcastle, when they stopped a man riding an e-motorbike. Officers conducted a safety check, educating the rider on the legal requirements for e-bikes and issuing a warning that further breaches could result in legal action.
Later that afternoon, the same man was stopped again by police on Cowper Street, Carrington, after allegedly being seen riding the e-motorbike. A preliminary roadside breath test returned a positive result, leading to his arrest.
At Newcastle Police Station, a secondary breath analysis recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.178. Further investigation revealed the rider did not hold a licence for the type of vehicle he was operating.
The man has been charged with five offences, including:
- Driving with high-range PCA
- Driving without a licence for the vehicle class
- Using an unregistered Class A motor vehicle on the road
- Using an uninsured vehicle on the road
- Riding without a helmet while carrying a passenger also without a helmet
He has been issued a court attendance notice and is due to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, 11 December 2025.
