A man has been charged following a dramatic stabbing incident in Merewether, near Newcastle, earlier today.
Around 7:05 am, emergency services rushed to Selwyn Street after receiving reports of a violent confrontation. According to police, a 33-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by another man who had broken into a neighboring property.
The victim suffered stab wounds to his leg and hand and was treated on the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to John Hunter Hospital. He is currently in stable condition.
Newcastle City Police District officers established a crime scene and launched an investigation. A 23-year-old suspect was apprehended shortly after at a nearby unit on Wilton Street.
The suspect has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated break and enter with intent to commit a serious indictable offense. He has been refused bail and is set to appear before Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
