Cessnock Mayor Bob Pynsent will not contest the upcoming local government elections, and has endorsed Jay Suvaal as Labors candidate for Mayor.
Up until last week most people had no idea who this councillor was before we made him famous by declaring he had done triple backflip on councils parking policy.
So who is Jay Suvaal?
Jay Suvaal was born in Cessnock back in a time when Cessnock had a functioning hospital, Jay grew up in Kearsley, attended the local primary school, and Mt View High School. He now lives in Cessnock with his wife and son.
Jay Suvaal was first elected to council on the promise to bring local jobs to Cessnock, in his time as a councillor we have seen more abandoned shop fronts in town than ever before, they couldn’t even keep the local paper to stay local, whilst it would be unfair to blame Jay alone, the labor party has a lot to answer for, and they can’t blame the pandemic has we have not been greatly impacted.
Lack of parking and poorly designed CBD and not to mention the infamous “DOT” aka Cooper Street roundabout is responsible for decline in shops in the CBD.
I look forward to hearing how Jay Suvaal and his Labor team will fix these issues.
