More than 100 Hunter workers are set to lose their jobs following the shock decision by steel manufacturer Austube Mills to shut down its production facilities at Mayfield.
The company confirmed the closure on Wednesday, delivering a blow to local industry and families across the region. Operations will cease by December next year as the company restructures its manufacturing footprint.
The news comes amid growing concerns about job security in the Hunter, with unions and workers calling for urgent government support and investment in local manufacturing.
