News Alert: Fatal Crash in Hunter Region Claims Life of Motorcyclist

Tragedy struck the Hunter region yesterday afternoon as a fatal two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The incident occurred at approximately 2:20 pm on Wednesday 22 March 2023, when emergency services were alerted to a collision between a motorcyclist and a blue Mitsubishi wagon at the intersection of Glenwood Drive and Poynton Place in Thornton near Maitland.

Police officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District responded to the scene where they found the motorcyclist and the Mitsubishi wagon had collided. Unfortunately, the male rider, believed to be aged 38, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi wagon, a 70-year-old woman, was uninjured in the crash. She was arrested and taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing and released pending further inquiries.

Specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
