In a move that has stirred excitement throughout the community, Deputy Mayor Mitchell Griffin has thrown his support behind a motion proposed by Cr Sally Halliday to host members of the royal family in Maitland during their anticipated 2024 tour of New South Wales.
Deputy Mayor Griffin took to Facebook to express his enthusiasm, stating, “Last night, I supported Cr Sally Halliday’s motion to submit Maitland’s interest in hosting members of the Royal Family as part of their 2024 tour of New South Wales.”
The royal tour, announced by the Governor of New South Wales, is set to commemorate the Bicentenary of the Legislative Council in the coming year. While the exact date and the specific members of the Royal Family who will visit Maitland are yet to be disclosed, anticipation is running high.
The last time the Royal Family visited Maitland was in 1983 when the then Prince and Princess of Wales graced Town Hall with their presence.
