Thousands of residents across the Hunter are waking up without electricity this morning as wild wind and heavy rain continue to lash the region.
More than 5,000 homes and businesses remain without power after overnight storms brought down trees, trampolines, and outdoor furniture, damaging power lines and critical infrastructure.
Power is currently out in full or in part across a wide stretch of the Hunter including:
Aberdare, Abernethy, Bucketty, Buttaba, Carey Bay, Cedar Creek, Congewai, Cooranbong, Dairy Arm, Dora Creek, Ellalong, Elrington, Eraring, Freemans Waterhole, Kearsley, Kilaben Bay, Laguna, Mandalong, Martinsville, Millfield, Morisset, Morisset Park, Myuna Bay, Paxton, Paynes Crossing, Sweetmans Creek, Toronto, Wangi Wangi, Windermere Park, Wollombi, and Wyee.
Ausgrid crews are working through challenging conditions to restore power where it is safe to do so.
⚠️ Road and Transport Disruptions
Fallen trees are also causing issues on local roads, with updates expected throughout the day.
🚉 Train Disruptions
- No trains between Fassifern and Wyong — limited replacement buses are running.
